FAQ

Yes, this is true. This is achieved by far greater power density produced with photons as opposed to electrons, therefore maximising efficiency in each mm of travel.

Yes, fusion process can selected across many different presets for various materials. It is particularly effective of thinner materials.

The LightWELD is very easy to use in regards to interface, program selection & operability. It is important that first the operators understand basic safety principles (which our team will support you with). IPG & Morgan Rushworth have developed numerous presets for different material applications which makes it extremely simple to set the system up for any job. Once equipped with correct information, a novice can start to use the kit and produce high quality welds in just a matter of weeks.

No, due to quality laser diodes & quality cooling system the LightWELD boasts a 100% duty cycle at 1500 watts. Meaning that your new investment can run all day, every day!

Yes, this is true. The LightWELD has a laser cleaning operability which can be set up to a 15mm width, eliminating the need for traditional weld cleaning machines & expensive consumables/chemicals involved.

We can accommodate virtually any size based on your requirements. Our standard stock sizes are 3m x 3m & 4m x 4m, however, these booths are modular and can be made with any modifications such as bespoke door solutions/bespoke configurations.

Yes, this is true. Again, due to the power density we can achieve per mm2 being around 200x that of traditional processes. The heat affected zone is extremely concentrated, virtually eliminating reworks on most applications.

Absolutely, using the IPG/Morgan Rushworth presets, it makes it possible to produce welds that meet & exceed AWS, ASME, CWB & ISO standards. This has been tried & tested. We have a wealth of data surrounding this which we’d be happy to share with you upon request.

It is manufactured in the United States, in collaboration with Germany, both at IPG Photonics headquarters.

Yes, the Lightweld is compliant with all of the following current legislation.
  • BS 60825 Part 1 – 1994
  • Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 (HASAWA)
  • Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER)
  • The Control of Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations (AOR) 2010
  • IEC 60825-1:2014

We offer all necessary protective wear. This includes laser safe clothing, laser safe spectacles & laser safe welding helmets. All eye & headwear are tested and rated safe at 1070 nanometers zone of infared light exposure.

This is a real concern. All laser welding should be carried out within an interlocked class 4 laser safe enclosure with the correct PPE. Wearing only glasses means you are only one slight head tilt away from retina damage, as well as constant skin exposure. We will only assist to integrate/educate on laser welding when the correct safety measures are in place, which of course we give advice on as the trusted advisor.
